One of the most visited
attractions in the city of Florence is Michelangelo’s David statue. The larger-than-life man of
marble has been famous for centuries, a symbol of male beauty and a model of
sculptural skill. Notably, David wears no clothing. However, if he were a
flesh-and-blood man of the modern world he would have plenty of local designers
waiting to dress his perfect physique. Indeed, many of the icons of men’s fashion hail from Italy. Armani, Dolce
& Gabbana, Fendi, Ferragamo, Prada and Versace are only a few of the
fashion houses based in Italy whose clothing is coveted by the best dressed men
(and women!) all over the world.
While the
above-mentioned Italian fashion labels represent well-established brands, there
is a platform for new designers that attracts people to Florence twice a year:
the Pitti Immagine Uomo. This men’s clothing extravaganza is held every January
and June, with the next event scheduled for January 12 to January 15, 2016. The
summer event will take place June 14 to June 17, 2016. That means there is
plenty of time to
reserve your long term apartment rentals in Florence before
the next Pitti Immagine Uomo fashion show begins.
The Pitti Immagine
events have been held in Florence since the early 1970’s, and now include a series of separate
congregations each focused on a different genre, such as children’s fashion and accessories, food tasting
(attended by caterers, restauranteurs and foodies), fragrance and the textile
industry. By far the largest event is the Pitti Uomo, but if you are lucky to
find one of the fashionable Florence Italy apartments during the month
of January, you will be able to attend several of the other Pitti Immagine
exhibitions as well.
The items on display at
the Pitti Immagine Uomo represent the forefront of the fashions that will
embellish the modern man from head to toe. From ultra-stylish eyeglasses to
finely crafted leather footwear, from form-fitting undergarments to dapper
overcoats, the clothing styles presented by the passionate designers invited to
the Pitti Uomo range from classic to contemporary. There are also numerous
talks and exhibitions devoted to men’s accessories, such as hats and handbags. (Note: do not call it
a man purse!)
In January 2016, the Pitti Immagine Uomo
exhibitions begin at 9:00 each morning and conclude at 6:00 in the evening on
each of the four days of the show (events end at 4:00 p.m. on the final day of
the exhibition). The schedule is routinely packed with up-and-coming designers
and students, curious fashionistas, media representatives, and a host of
speakers who lead discussions on the latest trends in style and design,
including which colors and textures will be seen on the runways and city
sidewalks in the seasons ahead.
